Flashing!

Got my new SB900 to replace my older SB800 (saves a fifth battery and gives me another backup).

the new one is huuuuuuuuggge. As big as the canon one (in fact slight bigger head!)

Can't wait to try it out (sad i know! :) )
Update - Just for Rob ;-)

SB800 vs SB900
Pros/Cons:

  • After having used it in anger for a while now here's some pro's and cons.
  • The remote master switch is much better than on the old sb800
  • T like not having to worry about a stupid 5th battery - (no-one sells them in 5's - so you need to buy 8 and have 3 "wasted" ones)
  • Battery door is still poor though compared to the 580EX2
  • Menu is better than before - no cryptic custom functions like on canon
  • It's a PITA that the camera can't set the stuff via the camera - all the canons one can - irrespective of if they have a builtin flash or not

Oh and recycle time/TTL accuracy/WB is fine ;)
Zoom is a better 18-200 so it works better for those wide angles

Dear Greg,

I look forward to a relevant report on your experience with the SB900.

If you could include notes on recycling time ... TTL accuracy, autofocus/zoom ability it would be most appreciated.

Also, do you know if it is compatible with the Derek Pye Catherdral Dome Flash Diffuser?
